In an increasingly competitive marketplace it’s important to find new ways to get your material noticed. Screenwriter Johnny T. Silver, looking for a fresh way to engage with creative executives, brought his TV pilot “DRIVEN” to life with a Hollywood-based table read, and a little help from the folks at Final Draft.
One of the greatest hurdles for screenwriters today is making sure your script gets the attention it deserves. Writer Johnny T. Silver did just this by hosting a table read for his TV pilot project, “Driven”, an event held at The Parlor on Melrose Avenue and sponsored by Final Draft and Grey Goose.
“Driven” is a one-hour crime drama about a Limo Driver who moonlights as a Getaway Driver for the Mafia. Actor Mo McRae (RAY DONOVAN, SONS OF ANARCHY) is attached to the project as producer and is also set to play the lead character, Mike, who is loosely based on Silver himself and his own experiences as a limo driver in Los Angeles. The script also caught the attention of director/producer Ken Wittingham (PARENTHOOD, PARKS AND RECREATION) who has also boarded the project.
The table read was professionally cast by Brad Gilmore (GAME OF ASSASSINS, THE REPLACMENT CHILD), and featured such well-known actors as Richard T. Jones (HAWAII FIVE-0), Lane Garrison (BONNIE AND CLYDE) and La La Anthony (POWER). The event was attended by writers, executives, and actors, many of whom followed along using Final Draft’s new Writer App for iPad. Many of the actors taking part in the table read also elected to use the Final Draft Writer App to follow their lines rather than a printed, manually highlighted script. The Final Draft Writer App contains a function that allows the user to highlight a character’s dialogue, a perfect tool for any actor’s arsenal.
The evening and table read were a great success, proving that all you need to succeed in screenwriting is drive, determination, and Final Draft.
The Final Draft Writer App is available for both iPhone and iPad from http://www.finaldraft.com/products/mobile.
